We went to Howard Payne Homecoming 2005 this weekend. There weren't many fellas there but we did find one VERY important one Sunday morining. Justin & Suzanne are members at Coggin Ave Bapt Church and the church is currently without a pastor.
As he has done for so many churches over the years, Dr. Frankie Rainey stepped in as an interim pastor. God seems to have really blessed Dr Rainey with the gift of shepharding churches during times of transition. He's a special man.
Dr. Rainey also is VERY special the the Curlee and Mathews family. Dr Rainey served as pastor for Memaw Lorene and Pappa George's church in Lampasas. During that time they came to love him dearly and till their last days always spoke very highly and lovingly about him. He meant alot to those two and that congregation.
Over the years as a professor of Christianity at HPU Kat and I got to know him as well.
Kat had him for New Testament, a class which suprisingly kicked her butt. She learned alot from him.
I didn't have him for any classes... thankfully because he graded REALLY HARD.
Dr Rainey however was our Delta Pi sponsor. WOW what memories. He was our dad, our grandpa, our best friend, and our leader. He was and is still, one of the original fellas.
One minute he'd be going over scripture with us, the next he'd be dwelling us. We'll be posting plenty of Dr Rainey pictures at dasfellas.com as that site comes to life.
For Kat and I, Dr Rainey means a little more than most. He was our pastor at Crestmont Baptist Church in Burleson when we lived in Arlinton the first time around, and more importantly, he was our pre-marriage counselor. We learned alot durning our sessions with him. We love him dearly and to this day keep him near our hearts.

This morning at Coggin, I had the distict honor of introducing my daughters to him. Jillian just smiled her usual smile, but Jayna ran right to him and jumped in his arms for a HUGE hugh. He squeezed her tightly and just loved on her. I almost started crying.
Full Circle. Wow. I've got pictures of Dr Rainey, pictures of me and the fellas with him, and now... a picture of my beloved daughter with one of my beloved, former leaders.
Dr. Rainey, Thanks for the years, the memories, the love and the laughs.... all of them.
I and my family love you brother!

Did you guys have a blast or what? I am just sick that I couldn't be there. However, I've just agreed to serve on the Alumni Board - so I'll be a regular for the next couple of years!
